Amy June Bates grew up in Utah right where the last house in suburbia meets the mountains, or where the mountains meet the last house in suburbia depending on which way you’re going.
Amy June Bates is the author and illustrator of THE BIG UMBRELLA and WHEN I DRAW A PANDA. She is also the illustrator of over 50 other books including GITTEL’S JOURNEY, AND I PAINT IT, and THE BOY AND THE SEA. Her books have received the Jewish Book Award, the Sydney Taylor Award, and the Christopher Award. She loves to draw people, birds, critters, and animals, and also mysteries, monsters, and mermaids. There nothing she’s not curious about. She likes to laugh. She loves to cackle.
Amy still loves the mountains quite a bit, she settled in the hills of Pennsylvania, where she now shares an old house with her husband and various kids and critters who all try to steal her raspberries.
